Riddy GEMA, born in 1989 in Kinshasa, is a Congolese painter who lives and works in his hometown. After obtaining a state diploma in Chemistry-Biology in 2009 at the MANTUIDI Institute, he turned to the arts and continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa, where he obtained a diploma in plastic arts, painting option, in 2015. He is part of a generation of recognized artists, alongside figures such as Pita KALALA and Glory Kanga, respected on the Kinshasa art scene.
Artistic approach
Riddy GEMA's inspiration comes mainly from close observation of the society around him. A fervent defender of African values and deeply rooted in his own culture, his works are imbued with references to tradition, testifying to his attachment to the Congolese cultural heritage. His mostly figurative works are characterised by backgrounds of solid but intense colours, highlighting the characters depicted.
